En la aproximaci\u00f3n supervisada de ML, que en la actualidad sigue mostrando los mejores desempe\u00f1os en m\u00faltiples tareas, el algoritmo de aprendizaje es capaz de obtener una soluci\u00f3n general a un problema a partir de ejemplos de soluciones individuales. La mayor\u00eda de los algoritmos de ML requieren de una gran cantidad de datos para obtener una soluci\u00f3n que muestre buena generalizaci\u00f3n, es decir que sea capaz de responder adecuadamente a instancias diferentes a las empleadas durante el entrenamiento. No obstante, son muchos los escenarios en los que no resulta factible o viable contar con cantidades masivas de datos, en especial en el caso de datos supervisados, ya que habitualmente esa supervisi\u00f3n en forma de respuestas deseadas deben ser generadas manualmente, muchas veces por expertos, con un elevado costo e inherente susceptibilidad al error humano. Se han propuesto varias alternativas para tratar de mejorar la generalizaci\u00f3n del ML en escenarios de datos escasos. Entre ellos: aumento de datos (data augmentation), transferencia de aprendizaje (transfer learning), y aprendizaje semi supervisado (semi supervised learning).
